Abstract

The multiple sclerosis (MS) specialist nurse is pivotal to the care and support of patients with MS, often taking the lead for service provision and development. However, in the current financial climate in the NHS, MS nurses are having to justify their positions in economic terms. The MS Trust has developed a business plan toolkit to help MS nurses plan and review the financial aspects of their work and justify their contribution in economic terms. The MS nurse ensures that information and support is both appropriate and timely in the care of people with MS. To secure that precious resource for the future, those principles have to be applied to the ‘business’ of caring.
