Abstract

Abstract In this study, a thermally and electrically shape memory polymer was prepared with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) filled with short carbon fibers (SCFs) by the electro-mixed fusion preparation method. SCFs could be evenly distributed in the PVA matrix by this novel method. The formation of stable network structures by SCFs rearranged in the PVA matrix further improves the electrical conductivity and the mechanical properties of the PVA. In the process of shape memory recovery, the recovery ratio of PVA/SCF composites by electrical stimulation was higher than that by thermal stimulation, and the recovery time could be precisely controlled. In short, PVA/SCF composites by this novel method show desirable shape memory effects and have great potential in foldable smart devices.
