Abstract

Closed oak forests occur at the Tengelic Sand Ridge as isolated fragments, growing primarily in interdunal depressions and on dune sides. They occupy habitats a little above the otherwise similar oak hornbeam forests (Convallario-Carpinetum). Their structure, species composition and phytogeographical characteristics strongly resemble those of the closed pedunculate oak forests found in the sand ridges between the Danube and Tisza Rivers and at the western flanks of the Bakony Hills (Polygonato latifolii-Querectum roboris Borhidi in Borhidi et Kevey 1996). According to the results of traditional and multivariate statistical analyses, these oak forests are identified with the latter association.
