Abstract

Abstract A systematic method is described for selecting the optimum ternary mobile phase for both thin layer and high performance liquid chromatography. The statistical data analysis employs overlapping resolution mapping in which a contour plot is made by plotting resolution against solvent composition. The computer analysis predicts optimum mobile phase regions, from which the analyst can select the least viscous, and cheapest, mobile phase. Peak crossover is taken into consideration. Good agreement was observed between predicted and experimental data. The method is simple and easy to apply to liquid chromatography.
