Abstract

ABSTRACT The Canadian Stratigraphic Company Ltd. has available to industry a file of digitized lithologic data which they have compiled over the past 16 years. The spread and concentration of these data in western Canada has essentially confined their application to regional studies. Largely on the basis of the facilities of the Mark IV File Management System, Mobil Oil Canada has developed a system that provides the geologist with considerable flexibility in processing and mapping these data. The depth of investigation available to the geologist as a result of this system is totally unattainable by conventional means and demonstrates the value of computerization in petroleum exploration. This paper guides readers through the routine procedure of the system in processing lithologic data for regional studies.
