Effective management of the transport component of a bonded warehouse is an important factor in ensuring the continuity of logistics processes and optimizing costs in international trade. In the context of globalization and dynamic development of world markets, there is a growing need for sustainable logistics models that are able to adapt to changes in the regulatory environment, digitalization and challenges associated with geopolitical instability. The loss of part of logistics capacity due to military actions in Ukraine emphasizes the need to develop effective management solutions to minimize risks, increase the level of process automation and improve interaction between customs authorities and business. The article aims to solve a scientific problem of theoretical and methodological orientation, the essence of which is to develop a sustainable model of transport component management using the example of building a bonded warehouse. Based on the generalization of existing scientific achievements, the article clarifies the concept of a “sustainable model”. The goal of a sustainable model is outlined, the essence of which is to minimize the total costs of transport provision while meeting the requirements of throughput, delivery times and optimal use of resources. An algorithm for developing and testing a sustainable transport component management model has been developed, which involves collecting input data, entering the necessary parameters, checking constraints, allocating resources, assessing efficiency, deriving the optimal route, total costs, and environmental indicators. Nine variables of a sustainable model for managing the transport component of a bonded warehouse have been proposed. Binary variables (vehicle k on the route between points i and j) and weighting factors (α, β) have been determined. The introduction of five model constraints (vehicle throughput, demand provision at delivery points, time constraints, compliance with environmental standards, and logistics cyclicity) has been justified and the feasibility of its verification (testing) based on linear programming using the simplex method (numerical modeling). A sustainable model for managing the transport component of a bonded warehouse has been tested in Python, which allowed us to establish the dimension of the objective function as 6 (three delivery points for two vehicles), and the optimal number of constraints, which is 9. The presented scientific developments contribute to increasing the efficiency of logistics operations and the competitiveness of Ukrainian business in the international arena.

Along with the economic growth and development, people are facing challenges such as: the exhaustion of non-renewable resources, the natural environment is seriously destroyed, ecological balance is broken. Ensuring basic human rights is difficult because economic growth is not always accompanied by social progress and justice. Therefore, since the 1980s, "sustainable development" has become a strategy, that is mentioned by many countries and international organizations. Sustainable development is a relatively broad concept that covers all aspects and aspects of life, so sustainable development management requires the participation of many actors from state management institutions. to non-state institutions. This article focuses on answering two main questions: 1) Why is it necessary to build a community-based sustainable development management model? 2) What values can we inherit and promote from the Vietnamese tradition of self-governance in building community-based sustainable development management models in the current context?

Sustainable housing maintenance management model
  • Mar 31, 2015
  • A A Olanrewaju + 2 more

The drive towards sustainable development is achievable through the maintenance of the existing housing stock. But this is constrained by the lack of a connective link between maintenance management and sustainable development. This lack of connection can be explained by the poor perception and understanding of the scope of maintenance. Based on a synthesis of literature and discussions with experts, a conceptual sustainable housing maintenance management model that would allow sustainable development to be set as the objective for maintenance was presented. Not only does the model does show that sustainable development can be set as the maintenance objective, but both sustainable and maintenance requirements can be assimilated into management theories and practices. The key variables in sustainable housing maintenance management can be categorized into planning, controlling, organizing, directing and implementing functions. The study, though in the initial stage, represents a potential contribution to sustainable maintenance management for use in the built environment.

  • Mohsen Hadi Dehkordi + 2 more

Given the pollutant nature of the petrochemical industry, sustainable supply chain management within a circular economy framework is of great importance. It aims to reduce resource consumption through recycling, recovery, and reuse of materials and products in order to achieve economic, environmental, and social performance, as well as to gain competitive advantage. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design a sustainable supply chain management model in the circular economy of the petrochemical industry using the Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM) approach. The participants included 16 senior and middle managers of the petrochemical industry, selected through a purposive non-probability sampling method. The data of this study were analyzed in both qualitative and quantitative sections. In the qualitative section, the model’s indicators were identified using a multi-content analysis approach and categorized through coding. In the quantitative section, the identified indicators were validated using the fuzzy Delphi method, and then causal relationships were analyzed with the Fuzzy Cognitive Map approach. The findings revealed that the indicators of "sales," "green production process planning," and "reverse logistics," due to their highest interconnections with other indicators, hold the greatest importance in the circular economy. This finding indicates that managers, through collaboration and participation across the identified critical sectors, can enhance sustainable supply chain management.

  • Sumiani Yusoff

With the escalated increase in municipal solid waste (MSW) generation in Malaysia reaching a shocking 38,000 ton/day in 2017, a sustainable waste management system is much desired. Nationwide, there are 176 landfills but only 8 are sanitary landfill with the rest are open dumpsites. In the campus of University of Malaya, UM Zero Waste Campaign (UM ZWC) was introduced in 2011 to start a long-term campaign to achieve an integrated and sustainable waste management model and ultimately a zero-waste campus. Since year 2015, UM ZWC is fully funded by Sustainability Science Research Cluster of UM (Susci) as one of the living labs of UM as well as by JPPHB under the RMK-11 budget. UM ZWC operating projects including in house composting center, food waste segregation scheme, research composting emission and waste characterization, anaerobic digestion (AD), used clothes collection program, wood waste separate collection, e-waste collection and drop-off recycling collection were initiated under the campaign. Since the inception of the project in 2011 until December 2017, almost over 620 tons of solid waste has been diverted from disposal in landfill with composting, AD, recycling, re-use and energy recovery. A roadmap of UM ZWC was drawn up in 2013, with a goal to achieve 60% landfill diversion by year 2040. In the next 5-10 years, UM ZWC plays a vital role to formalize the recycling collection in UM and further increase the organic waste recycling with green waste shredding and composting. Besides environmental benefits (pollution prevention and carbon emission reduction), UM ZWC brings various benefits such as academic research opportunities for UM, contribute in UM LCCF (Low carbon city framework) target and serve as platform to improve students soft skills and entrepreneur skill. Multi stakeholders participation, support form top management and industrial collaboration are the key factors that are able to drive the development of a sustainable waste management model in UM campus.

Sustainable Strategic Management Model for Hotel Companies: A Multi-Stakeholder Proposal to “Walk the Talk” toward SDGs
  • Oct 19, 2020
  • Sustainability
  • Ernestina Rubio-Mozos + 2 more

As we reach the fifth anniversary of the Declaration of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the tourism sector responsible for over 10% of the world’s GDP still does not have an open-source, sustainable management criteria that would enable and empower them to “walk the talk” to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of this paper is to fill the gap in the social sciences and business management literature by providing a theoretical Sustainable Strategic Management Model (SSMM) proposal for the Fourth Sector (4S), Small- and Medium-sized (SMEs) Hotel companies (4S-SM-HCs), which are committed and have the will to contribute firmly to the 2030 Agenda. Based on their corporate purpose and aligned with the SDGs, this article provides a holistic proposal with a multi-stakeholder approach, adding the SDG perspective. Through a qualitative research methodology based on two focus groups in which the main stakeholders and the management team of the 4S-SM-HC under examination took part, a theoretical SSMM is co-defined so that the hotel company can make significant contributions to the five areas of the SDGs. Basing their structure on the internationally recognized Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria and co-created through social learning, this SSMM proposes four strategic management axis and develops ten principles of ethical performance (PEP). The main contributions of this article are two: (1) to provide an ecosystemic SSMM proposal to the 4S-SM-HCs to allow them to make significant contributions to the SDGs, and (2) to facilitate a methodological framework with a multi-stakeholder approach and SDG perspective to enable them to contribute to the wellbeing of people, the community and the planet.

  • Sustainability
  • Alessandro Scuderi + 5 more

For several decades, studies and conventions have highlighted the importance of the ecosystem services provided by natural resources and biodiversity for humanity and the need to move their management towards a sustainable model. Inthe United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015), among its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there isalsoSDG 15, “Life on Land”, specifically dedicated to biodiversity, forests and desertification. The aim is to “sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt the loss of bio-diversity”. The UNESCO “MAB—Man and Biosphere” Programme could achieve this goal by establishing Biosphere Reserves (BRs). Among them, the establishment of the BR “Etna river valleys” is an opportunity to adopt sustainable development models in the “Etna Park system” (UNESCO site since 2013) for the regeneration of virtuous relationships between cities and rural areas and the promotion of the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity through strategies of territorial enhancement with a multifunctional vision of agriculture and territory. This research aims to provide, through the methodology of “Rough Sets”, a useful tool to support the strategic choices that stakeholders will be called upon to make for the management of the complex environmental, cultural and economic mosaic that characterises the BR “Etna river valleys”.The results show both weaknesses and strengths in the transition towards a sustainable land management model, which will nonethelesshave to be supported and accompanied by information and financial support.

A sustainable and secure load management model for green cloud data centres
  • Jan 10, 2023
  • Scientific Reports
  • Deepika Saxena + 3 more

The massive upsurge in cloud resource demand and inefficient load management stave off the sustainability of Cloud Data Centres (CDCs) resulting in high energy consumption, resource contention, excessive carbon emission, and security threats. In this context, a novel Sustainable and Secure Load Management (SaS-LM) Model is proposed to enhance the security for users with sustainability for CDCs. The model estimates and reserves the required resources viz., compute, network, and storage and dynamically adjust the load subject to maximum security and sustainability. An evolutionary optimization algorithm named Dual-Phase Black Hole Optimization (DPBHO) is proposed for optimizing a multi-layered feed-forward neural network and allowing the model to estimate resource usage and detect probable congestion. Further, DPBHO is extended to a Multi-objective DPBHO algorithm for a secure and sustainable VM allocation and management to minimize the number of active server machines, carbon emission, and resource wastage for greener CDCs. SaS-LM is implemented and evaluated using benchmark real-world Google Cluster VM traces. The proposed model is compared with state-of-the-arts which reveals its efficacy in terms of reduced carbon emission and energy consumption up to 46.9% and 43.9%, respectively with improved resource utilization up to 16.5%.

  • Longxing Chen + 2 more

This study aims to analyze the current situation of water resource management in Shaanxi Province, study the basic principles of ecological compensation, evaluate the impact of water conservation projects on the ecological environment by establishing a model, and propose a sustainable water resource management model. Hanzhong City has certain typicality and representativeness within Shaanxi Province, and the problems it faces in water resource management and ecological environment may represent the entire province or similar regions. At the same time, Hanzhong City has rich data and research foundations. Therefore, by conducting a detailed analysis of the current water resource status in the Hanzhong City area of Shaanxi Province, the problems in current water resource management are revealed, and the basic principles of ecological compensation are intensely studied. The original ecological compensation plan in Shaanxi Province has been summarized. Guided by the concept of sustainable development, an ecological compensation model is established using algorithms, and the model is applied to sustainable water resource management. Establish a model for water conservation and water resource management through data collection, preprocessing, and cleaning, and apply it to practical cases in Hanzhong City. Through simulation and analysis of Hanzhong City, the new water resource management model effectively mitigates the adverse effects of water conservation projects on the ecological environment while improving water resource utilization efficiency. The changes in various environmental parameters indicate that the new plan has improved the ecological environment. Through the application of the model, the ecological compensation plan formulated has achieved sustainable protection of the ecological environment while promoting economic development. This study proposes a sustainable water resource management model through a comprehensive study of water resource management and ecological compensation in Shaanxi Province and verifies it in practical cases, demonstrating that the model has not only good applicability but also has significant effects in promoting economic growth and ecological environment protection.
