Abstract

Atol das Rocas is a small island located about 147 miles to the north-east of the Brazilian mainland, near the region where the South Equatorial Current branches to form the Brazil and the Antilles current. Its marine flora was completely unknown until recently (Oliveira Filho & Ugadim, 1974). This paper presents a list of the benthic algae consisting of twenty-two Chlorophyceae, eighteen Phaeophyceae and fifty-three Rhodophyceae, and compares its flora with the one of the nearby continent.
