Abstract

A survey was conducted of 71 medium and large Canadian organizations which reported having EAPs in a larger, earlier study of stress in the workplace. Findings from the 48 responding organizations showed that virtually all offered broad brush EAPs; most perceived benefits to be improved employee morale and reduced absenteeism among other benefits; and only a minority evaluated their EAPs. Conclusions and recommendations are offered in three major areas: EAP information systems, EAP expansion in the fume, and improved evaluation/audit of EAPs.
