Abstract

A new magnetic separator is presented consisting of a current-carrying wire matrix in an applied magnetic field. This machine has particular advantages with superconducting magnets. The wires trap weakly magnetic particles from a fluid, either liquid or gas, which carries the particles through the wire matrix. High processing rates and high selectivity of material in magnetic susceptibility and in particle size can be achieved with low power input. A wide range of susceptibility material can be treated simultaneously. This separator has no moving parts.
