Abstract

The USDA-NRCS New York City Soil Survey observed inconsistencies between site hydrology and soil morphologic expression of redoximorphic features in Blue Heron Park, Staten Island while traversing the site for initial mapping. Subsequently, IRIS tubes were installed May 21, 2008 and removed June 17, 2008 to investigate the relationship between measured water table depths and the tube depletion during that period (28 d). The entire tube surfaces were photographed and pieced together, so the resulting expression of redoximorphic depletion of the tubes could be compared with the pedon descriptions of each site.
