Abstract

With the current emphasis on building energy use and CO2 emission reduction, this study sought to compare the energy and environmental pollution items of South Korea’s green building certification system (GBCS) and the U.S. LEED system, with a view to exploring South Korea’s GBCS development direction. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, South Korea’s GBCS is led by the government while the U.S.’s LEED system is led by the private sector. Second, South Korea requires preliminary certification and main certification while LEED requires main certification. Third, the South Korean evaluation is based on the final score allotment while the LEED evaluation consists of prerequisite and credit items..
