Abstract

Fasting plasma amino acid analyses made on blood from the same subjects on four occasions at yearly intervals were available for 35 boys and 26 girls. These subjects tended to maintain the same relative plasma level of most of the amino acids over the 3–3 1 2 - yr period during which blood samples were taken. This demonstrated the existence of characteristic individual patterns of plasma amino acid levels. Correlations between individual amino acid levels and some physical growth characteristics were examined. These included body build and age of peak height velocity for boys and girls and age of menarche for girls. There were only a few statistically significant correlations, which showed little consistency.
