Abstract

We present the Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of CuGaS2:Cd grown by iodine transport method. The PL spectra of CuGaS2 showed both band gap and deep center emission, while for CuGaS2:Cd the deep center emission was suppressed completely and a new strong emission at 2.31 eV with an activation energy of 97 meV appeared. The pressure dependence of the Raman spectra in CuGaS2:Cd has been measured up to about 8 GPa at room temperature. At above 1.76 GPa, the Γ1 mode splits into two with frequencies of 313 and 315 cm—1 (Γ1) in which the mode Grneisen parameters are 1.50 and 1.47, respectively. The additional peak is considered by the localized phonon resulting from the cation Cd.
