Abstract

Abstract The effectiveness of Golf-O-Tron as a teaching aid as compared to the effectiveness of the conventional practice range method in relation to improvement in skill and possible transfer effect was investigated, 85 subjects of freshman college classification formed four groups. Only the 7-iron was used in the instruction and practice sessions which ran for two sessions each week for four weeks. Tests of golf skill in the use of the 7-iron (use to test improvement) and the 4-iron (used to test transfer effect) were administered to obtain pretreatment and posttreatment scores. The findings in this study would appear to warrant the conclusions that (a) subjects in both methods showed significant improvement in 7-iron skill but differences in improvement through the use of one method are not significantly greater (P = .05) than through the use of the other method; (b) the improvement of male subjects is not significantly greater than that of female subjects, or vice versa; rather, differences that exist...
