Abstract

WITHIN THE broad area of teacher education attention has been focused on various specific elements of the teacher training curriculum, such as laboratory experiences in student teaching, measurement and prediction of teaching success, teacher competencies, and courses de signed to develop these competencies. In particular, methods courses of various types and in various forms are offered widely in teac he r training institutions. There is growing concern as to the place and function of these courses in the pre-service programs of teachers. As yet, relatively little information is available regarding general methods courses in teacher education. It was the purpose of this study to investigate current practices in conducting general methods and re lated courses in the preparation of secondary school teachers.
