Abstract

In this paper, we consider the modelling of two-stage automatic transfer lines in which each stage has a different operation cycle time and a different number of machines using the Markov model. In this method, the G. C. M. of the operation cycle times is selected as an observation cycle time in order to observe all the machine transitions in the line. This method is also applied to multi-stage lines with various numbers of machines. From the numerical analysis, it is concluded that the production rate generally increases as the number of machines increases. However, it is also concluded that in the line with a special combination of numbers of machines in stages 1 and 2, the increase in number of machines causes machine interference and decreases the production rate.
