Abstract

Powder neutron diffraction using the Rietveld profile refinement method modified for time-of-flight data was used to investigate the structure of the distorted perovskite, NaUO 3 (space group Pbnm; a = 5.779(4), b = 5.907(3), and c = 8.283(4) Å). The octahedron of oxygen atoms around the pentavalent uranium atom in this compound is slightly distorted with four of six oxygen atoms at 2.152 Å and the other two at 2.145 Å.
