Abstract

Over the past years, several investigations were performed to characterize the biomechanical properties of soft tissues, which are subject to some degree of mechanical activity. However, the available quantitative information on the biomechanical properties of soft tissues which do not have an active mechanical function, such as the breast, is limited. Several studies have quantified the mechanical properties of the breast constituents using Young’s moduli to relate the stiffness with the type of tissue. Accordingly, this paper is aimed at reviewing analyze the several types of mechanical tests and results of normal breast. This can be a means of comparison for posterior studies.
