Abstract

It may be safely stated that Frank M. White represents one of the most recognizable household names in the field of fluid mechanics. The fact that he stands among the most influential fluid dynamicists of our era may be inferred from the overwhelming response that we have received to this special issue, which quickly grew to 51 paper contributions that are now published collectively. It is further reflected by his widely adopted textbooks, especially Viscous Fluid Flow (VFF) and Fluid Mechanics (FM), which have garnered a tremendous following for more than 50 years, guiding and inspiring several generations of students, faculty members, and scholars from all around the world. His profound impact is moreover echoed in the various testimonials and communications that we have received from countless engineers and scientists who have interacted with him both personally and professionally. Samples of those comments will be featured here.
