Abstract

High resolution mobility analysis of an electrosprayed sample of the ΦX174 bacteriophage reveals an exceptionally narrow size distribution (relative diameter full width at half maximum below 0.7%) centered at a mean mobility diameter dp = 28.9 nm. These icosahedral particles are commercially available in solution at concentrations in excess of 109/mL. Here they are simply dialyzed into 10 mM aqueous ammonium acetate, before being atomized in a bipolar electrospray.
