Abstract

This paper presents a management design approach to assembly line systems (ALS) by considering both the cost and leadtime under demand fluctuations. First, a design procedure based on the 2-stage design method is presented for the ALS with and without stoppers in the installation case of production facilities. Next, the strategic relation of economic traffic and leadtime is considered by introducing the production matrix table. Finally, a positioning strategy (cycle time and number of stations) is discussed for a case in which the leadtime is restricted.
