Abstract

In this paper, a simplified model is developed to treat the mutual coupling effects of adaptive antenna arrays. This model is based on the Neumann expansion technique for matrix inversion. In modeling the mutual coupling effects for an antenna element in an adaptive array, only the direct coupling from its neighbor elements are considered. Numerical examples show that the SINR of an adaptive antenna array including mutual coupling effects calculated with the simplified model is with good accuracy. This model is not only numerically efficient but also gives physical insight into the mutual coupling mechanisms within an adaptive antenna array.
