Abstract
Abstract Asymmetric reduction of carbonyl compounds by yeas thas been well documented1 and often provides a convenient routeto enantiomerically pure secondary alcohols. Our need for certain optically active diols prompted us to examine the reduction of acetonylacetone which was expected based on precedent to give the S,S-diol shown below.
