Abstract

In the hands of a skilled orthopaedic surgeon the insertion of the Smith-Petersen pin is not a matter of great difficulty. In practice the bulk of the problems involved are radiological and to a large extent to-day they are those of the lateral radiograph of the femoral neck. This article describes a primarily radiological approach to the design of the orthopaedic table, and the result takes the form of a simple piece of apparatus which permits all the necessary films to be taken easily and accurately, and without unduly close approach to the operation field.
