Abstract

A simple analytical model of configuration interaction of ionic and covalent states is developed. The model describes the bound states of an electron in a Coulomb field and N point potentials (N=1 and 2). In this model the adiabatic ionic-covalent splitting is found as a function of the principal quantum number and the ionisation potential of the donor atom and the electron affinity of the acceptor atom.
