Abstract

We have developed a simple dc feedback circuit to keep the incident X-ray flux I 0 constant in EXAFS experiments run at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL). The flux is adjusted by applying a correction voltage to a piezoelectrically controlled Si crystal in the double monochromator. It requires no access to the monochromator and uses existing ionization chamber detectors. In our experiments this control has reduced the size of glitches by a factor of 8 and improved the S N in our ratioed EXAFS data by about a factor of 2.
