Abstract

This paper presents a new method for chemical development of latent fingerprints on unfired cartridge cases and some metal surfaces. It is based on chemical deposition of Prussian blue on uncontaminated metal surfaces. The deposited material is easily prepared by successive immersion of the unfired cartridge cases into an acidic aqueous solutions of Fe2(SO4)3 and K4[Fe(CN)6]. The Prussian blue deposits on the substrate in the valleys between the fingerprint ridges. The visualized fingerprints are with very good contrast. The proposed method is simple and exhibits excellent reproducibility, which makes it favorable for application in cases where the cartridge cases are unfired and without corrosion on its metal surface.
