Abstract

This paper presents a simple analog scheme for speed control of switched reluctance motor (SRM). It is designed to operate with minimum number of switching devices. The scheme makes use of signals of rotor position, speed, and current in the closed loop feedback control. The analog controller is tested for four quadrant operation of the drive. Use of off-the-shelf electronic components makes the controller simple and economical. The test results are presented for a 4kW, 4-phase, 1500 rpm 8/6 pole SR motor. The proposed scheme is shown to be simple, cost effective and useful for low power applications.
