Abstract
(Anesth Analg. 2017;124(5):1581–1588) Ergometrine has long been used as a prophylactic uterotonic agent to reduce the risk of postpartum hemorrhage. However, its exact mechanism of action remains unclear. Previous studies have linked it to the stimulation of adrenoreceptors on the inner layer of the myometrium, resulting in increased basal tone. Thus, in the present study, the authors test the effects of α-adrenoceptor antagonist ligands on the action of ergometrine on isolated human myometrial cells.
