Abstract

AbstractIn recent years, the friction stir spot welding (FSSW) process become advantageous due to their increasing applications in the domain of automobile and aerospace industries, etc. FSSW is a prominent joining method, which shows significant potential for the joining of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, etc. The FSSW process has attained popularity over other joining methods due to its fast welding rate for similar and dissimilar materials. The present work explores the detailed literature review for joining similar and dissimilar materials using FSSW. This work includes the joining of different materials such as aluminium, magnesium, copper, steel and polymers using FSSW process. Moreover, the problems encountered during joining of materials and their solutions have been presented. This work reviews the general trends of FSSW process, which provides a pathway for the researchers involved in the domain of joining of advanced and challenging to join materials.KeywordsFriction stir spot weldingSimilar materialDissimilar material
