Abstract

AbstractThis letter describes the concept and realization of a low‐profile substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity backed antenna with circular polarization diversity. Four shorting posts are placed at the extended center lines of the crossed‐slot. Diodes are utilized to switch the shorting posts on and off. A simple bias circuit is presented to electronically control biased states of the diodes. By switching the biased states the proposed antenna can generate either a right‐hand circularly polarized (RHCP) or a left‐hand circularly polarized (LHCP) radiation. Samples operating at 10 GHz have been fabricated. Experiments have been carried out to validate the proposed method. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
