Abstract

Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) is a congenital vitreous abnormality caused by the continuous proliferation of the original vitreous in the embryonic stage without degeneration. The etiology of PHPV is unknown, and the incidence is extremely low. Further, 90% of cases consist of monocular disease. Binocular disease is rare, accounting for only 10% of PHPV cases.
