Abstract
A method has been developed for the rapid estimation of chromatographic column dead time. This utilises a commercial spreadsheet running on a Personal Computer, allowing automated dead time calculation in less than 30 seconds. Retention data from the literature have been used to illustrate the accuracy of this “carbon number method”. The method was also validated by using GC retention data experimentally recorded during this work.
