Abstract

A new quasi-magnetic-electric circularly-polarized (CP) patch antenna with wide bandwidth and low cross-polarization is proposed. The patch antenna has a low-profile structure with a single feed, and provides CP radiation with a high gain. It consists of a bowtie patch antenna that works as an equivalent magnetic current source, and a triangular dipole that acts as an electric current source. With a single feed, the two orthogonally-polarized current sources are combined to generate a circular polarization. In the designed antenna, an impedance bandwidth of 31.6% and a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 20% are achieved. In the band of interest, the antenna has a gain of about 8 dBic and a low cross-polarization of about −20 dB.
