Abstract
This paper presents a new project to implement a Demand Responsive Transport System (DRTS) in the city of Firenze, Italy, within the area of Campi Bisenzio. The project is operated by ATAF (Azienda dei Trasporti dell'Area di Firenze - Firenze Area Transit Company), within the framework of the Italian National Research Program on Transportation Systems (Progetto Finalizzato Trasporti 2) of the Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - CNR) and of SAMPO (System for Advanced Monitoring of Public Transport Operations), an international project within the European Programme on Telematics Applications (DGXIII). In particular, the paper deals with the methodological aspects of the project, i.e., the general approach that has been devised to define the procedures according to which the system is operated.
