Abstract

In the process of land and resources informatization, it will cause massive spatial data acquisition, processing, transmission, distribution and application. But, as an important channel of distributing spatial data, the cable and wireless communication network can't match the growth rate of spatial data for the reason of its limited bandwidth. So, this is a huge contradictions, and thus forms the obstacles of spatial information services. Therefore, to study multi-scale representation of spatial data and how to progressively transmit spatial data by the cable and wireless communication network which have limited bandwidth, is a specific solution for above-mentioned contradiction. In this paper, a progressive transmission schema which based on multi-scale representation of spatial data, spatial index and buffer strategy to support effective mobile GIS applications for spatial data in mobile environments is proposed. Research shows that this method can help to improve efficiency to transmit multi scale and large scale spatial data representation.
