Abstract

Summary: Antibodies to virus infection associated antigen (VIA) were shown in sera from Nigerian goats, sheep and cattle. The sera were taken in 1976, approximately three years after a foot and mouth disease outbreak caused by type SAT 2 virus. This communication gives results which indicate that the gel diffusion test employed would be helpful in determining the prevalence and species distribution of the disease in unvaccinated sectors of the Nigerian live stock industry.
