Abstract

The development of a set of rules, which can be used to generate the entries of a combined selection and breakage function matrix for use in grinding model applications, from laboratory batch grinding tests, is detailed, where only size distribution data on the mill feed and product are required. The method uses an optimization procedure to generate a “best” fit of the grinding function with respect to the developed set of rules and a set of batch test results at regularly spaced grinding intervals. The set of rules has been developed to provide meaningful answers with a minimum of computational effort, while not demanding modification to accepted laboratory batch grinding techniques. A set of results is presented for a series of batch grinding tests on a crushed slag feed.
