Abstract

In order to reduce the amount of power quality (PQ) data stored and transmitted in power systems, and overcome the disadvantage of traditional single channel voltage or current compression method, which only uses the correlation of sampling points in time sequence, a compression method based on principal component analysis (PCA) in wavelet domain and layered coding is proposed in this paper. Firstly, three-channel PQ data are acquired through the acquisition of three-phase voltage or current by transformer. Then the three-channel PQ data are transformed by wavelet transform. The wavelet coefficients in each scale form a wavelet coefficient matrix, and the PCA is done on each coefficient matrix. The principal components with small wavelet coefficients are coded by position increment and data, and other principal components using Huffman coding. Finally, using this algorithm to compress the actual PQ data, the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has good compression performance for multichannel PQ data.
