Surv Anesthesiol 2016;60(2):78–78 Lipid-soluble intravenous anesthetics, of which the current standard is propofol lipid emulsion, can cause infections, contamination, lipid toxicity, and potential respiratory and cardiovascular depression in patients. Subsequently, in this phase 1c, randomized, double-blind, dose-finding, human study, authors examined a potential alternative, Phaxan (PHAX; Chemic Labs, Canton, Mass; aqueous solution of 10-mg/mL alphaxalone and 13% 7-sulfobutyl-ether β-cyclodextrain).
