Abstract
The central assertion of this article is that child psychoanalysts have been moving toward relational theory and practice in recent years. However, the lingering influence of drive theory and associated analytic technique is evident in a common tendency to ignore the impact on the patient of what the analyst does and says in the analytic interaction.
