Abstract

A depth‐averaged hydrodynamical numerical model is used to investigate the M2 tide in the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary—a large, partially enclosed, vertically mixed body of water having one of the largest tidal ranges in the world. The computed vertical M2 tide is compared with observed data at 17 coastal stations and the computed tidal ellipses with observations at 30 current meter stations.
