Abstract

In this paper, a 300°C high performance Low-Dropout (LDO) regulator using Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) process for extreme drill bit application is implemented. The novelty is the capability of the LDO regulator to operate and yield high performance at an elevated temperature of up to 300°C. Furthermore, a systematic study and characterization for the thermal variance of the line/load regulation, power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and leakage current of a LDO regulator are presented. Till date, this systematic study on a high temperature LDO regulator has yet to be conducted in any research papers. The final measurement results are aligned to our theoretically derived analysis. The proposed 300°C LDO regulator, implemented with XFAB SOI CMOS 1μm process, yields a stable output voltage of 4.5V with a supply voltage range between 5.0-5.5V.
