Abstract

Nowadays, there is a huge demand for dental zirconia crown, while the available mass polishing method is quite limited. To fill this research gap, a novel method, called magnetic field-assisted batch polishing (MABP), is proposed to solve this problem. A series of polishing experiments are designed under different conditions, and the polishing performance of samples polished by MABP and manual method is evaluated by laboratory tests. The feasibility of the proposed method for polishing dental ceramic crowns is investigated as well. The experimental results demonstrate that the MABP is an effective method for mass polishing of the dental zirconia ceramic crown, and the minimum surface roughness in arithmetic mean height (Sa) of polished surface can reach 3 nm after 10 min. In addition, the samples polished by MABP and manual method can achieve the same flexural strength. This work can bring us a novel automatic, low-cost and high-efficiency polishing method for the dental ceramic crown.
