Abstract

The spectral characteristics of fluorescence from material that passes through a glass‐fiber filter suggests that the population of small cells is made up of cyanobacteria and other algae. The latter appear not to be diatoms or dinoflagellates as they contain little or no carotenoid protein such as fucoxanthin.
