Abstract

SUMMARY: A procedure for the estimation of sulphate‐reducing bacteria in the presence of greater numbers of cysteine‐decomposing bacteria is reported. Its application to an experiment on the control of nuisance during the wet tipping of domestic refuse showed that chromate is, in practice, a promising specific agent for preventing the nuisance caused by these bacteria.
