Abstract

In this contribution, a non-conformal mapping is proposed to avoid mesh deformation or remeshing in 2D FEM simulation of electrical machines with rotor eccentricity. The mapping transforms the uniform part of the air gap with eccentric rotor back to its centric position. It is based on a combination of classical conformal mapping, centering the rotor but distorting its radius and an additional non-conformal mapping, which rescales the rotor properly. The approach is verified by simulating a surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine at open loop condition. Advantages and drawbacks of the proposed method are discussed.
