Abstract
In this study, the classical eddy viscosity turbulence models are analysed from a new standpoint. Based on this standpoint, a new, two-equation model that aims at separated flows is presented. This new turbulence model is directly derived from the standard k−ϵ and k−ω models and tested against flow in a plane, asymmetric diffuser and against NACA 4412 aerofoil flow. The results of numerical simulation of the two different types of flow compared to experimental data show that the new model is good at prediction of separated flows. The results are very encouraging, but further verification and extensive application of this new model are needed.
