Abstract
The new subnitride Na8Ba14CaN6 is identified as a member of the series NanBa14CaN6 forming from appropriate mixtures of Ba,Ca2N, Na-K alloy, and NaN3 at 400 °C followed by slow cooling to room temperature (hexagonal, P63/m, a = 11.4192(9) Å, c = 21.543(2) Å, Z = 2 according to single crystal structure analysis). The structure is discussed in terms of Ba14CaN6 clusters in a sodium matrix and compared with the other members of the series concerning fractional volumes and the occurrence of unusual voids.
