Abstract

A new species of monostiliferous hoplonemertean, Tetrastemma phyllospadicola, is described from specimens collected on San Juan Island, Washington, U.S.A. The worms occur in great abundance on intertidal growths of the surfgrass Phyllospadix scouleri Hooker. The distinctive morphological characteristics of T. phyllospadicola are described, and aspects of its reproductive biology and natural history arc reported.
